Song By Song:
01 Don't Go Away - Gregg Willis
From the 12" single on Gold Thumb. This one was a birthday gift. It takes a great friend to understand how much I would love a record like this. Plus the only other Gregg I know that spells it with two g's is my brother in law. Not a bad look. Beautiful song. Almost a stepper.
02. Are You Thinking 'Bout Me - Bill Banfield
From his 1983 single on Bill's own label B Magic. I love duets. the song gets really strong at the end.
03. Making Love - Edward Fisher
From the 1985 LP "The Promise". This song smells like after shave. So Smooth and mellow. You're guaranteed to feel sexy after this one.
04. Sweet Thing - Mirage
A rendition of Chaka Kahn's "Sweet Thing". From the 1991 LP on Mob Boss Productions. This is the title song for the mix. This song is very special to me and a very unique version of a classic. The record instructs. "Want A Hit Record - Call Detroit". Followed by an office and pager number. Look at that beautiful drawing of downtown Detroit.
05. Being In Love - JCB Band
From a one sided 12" single on Krown Records. Released in 1986. an interesting song with a tremendous bass and synth line.
06. Forever - Kevin McCord
From the 1985 12" on Presents Records. Kevin McCord is one of my absolute favorite producers and song writers. Synth and vocals. Several of Kevin's records are featured on this and many other mixes I've done.
07. Wrong Place, Wrong Time - Jeff Phelps
From Phelps' 1985 LP Magnetic Eyes. Performed and recorded entirely by Phelps. This record is very special and a highly recommended listen.
08. Loving - Frank Jeffries, Jr.
From the self released LP "Plain and Simple". From the jacket to the recording, through and through this record has a tremendous amount of heart and soul. The back of the jacket advertises "Watch for plain and simple... Take Two". I wonder if it ever happened?
09. Last Night - Sweet Bea
A great song from Detroit's Sweet Bea. Released in 1988 on Johnny Ace Productions. Recorded at my favorite studio, Tantus. Tantus was the recording studio for A Number Of Names' techno classic "Sharivari". The studio was said to have a custom synth unlike any other in the world. I can't say enough about this one. Listen for yourself.
10. Where Did Our Love Go - Candye
Another McCord classic. Released on Present in 1985. Another strong duet, Candye Edwards with Kevin McCord. Candye's voice is very strong on this cut. The LP has two distinct sides labeled "Dance" and "Romance". Which side do you think this came from?
11. Play Your Cards Right - Vicki Harvey
Yet another McCord production. Released on the Detroit label Chance Records. Sorry for the crackle.
12. Out In Space - Lady Margaret & Perry Smith
From their 1981 45-rpm single on Gemini Records. Probably the earliest record on the mix. A very, very, very smooth duet about making love in outer space. Beware.
13. Are You Somebody's Girl - Edwynn Page
On Southfield Michigan's 2 Hot records. Released in 1992. The song has a strong sweet soul feel updated with a drum machine.
14. Why You Wanna Break My Heart - Mike Spurling
Featuring backing vocals from Kathy Sims and Tina Lewis. On Spurthello Records. I'm not a huge fan of the song / lyrics, but there is something to the recording quality of his voice. And the cover, come on?
